NetSensory Insights are viewed in the NetSensory Console. If you do not have the NetSensory Console you can download a free copy of the NetSensory Virtual Appliance from Network Physics from the NetSensory Virtual Appliance Download Page.

Once you have a copy of the NetSensory Console, there are several ways to get started using Insights:

  • You can download the Insights to the console automatically using the Update Center. (Instructions below.)
  • You can download the Insight files directly to your local machine and load them from there (Instructions at the end of this page).

To automatically load Insights from the Update Center: Log onto your NetSensory Appliance using the NetSensory Console and access the Update Center by selecting the Tools -> Update Center menu item in the main menu. Point the Update Center at the Community Insights Update Server by selecting Add Update Server in the Server: drop-down list at the top of the dialog. The URL for the Community Insights Update Server is www.networkphysics.com/support/insights/community

(see the image below).

Once you have pointed the Update Center at the Community Insights Update Server, the Update Center will display a list of available Community Insights that have not already been installed on the NetSensory Appliance (see the image below).

Select all the Insights that you would like to Install on your Appliance and press the Install button. The Update Center will now install all the Insights on your NetSensory Appliance or Virtual Appliance. You can view the Insights by going to the NetSensory Console main menu and selecting View -> Insight -> Insight Category -> Insight Name. The Insight will then be launched within the console.

To Download an Insight directly to your local system: Point a web browser to www.networkphysics.com/support/insights/community/zips and download the zip file for the Insight of your choice. Each zip file will contain the Insight’s XML file; a text file with a brief description of the Insight along with limitations, requirements, and suggestions for improvement; and possibly additional scripts that the Insight will use (these scripts are editable and you can use them to get other kinds of data into an Insight or to have the Insight perform certain tasks on your network).
