As part of our initiative to release a virtual version of the NetSensory Appliance, we realized that a lot of people out there don’t have experience with VMware. While trying to find resources that we could direct people to for how to get started with VMware proved nearly impossible (aside from the official VMware documentation, but who reads the docs anyway?), so we wrote our own getting started guide. This is a generic document on how to install and launch VMware, and includes lots of tasty screenshots. This article was written up by the ever popular Lifehacker.com on Feb 28th 2007.
[Editor’s Note, May 15, 2007] Check back here on www.itsnotthenetwork.com over the next few weeks, because I’ll be writing another couple of articles sharing some of the things I’ve learned about VMware and posting them, including the often requested “VMware Networking Howto”, where I will try to make some sense of the often extremely confusing choices to be made when dealing with Virtual Machines.
